
Dr. Jason Butler brings over 20 years of expertise in Health Information Technology (HIT) across more than 15 healthcare systems nationwide. As the former Chief Medical Information Officer for UNC Health Southeastern, he successfully led the implementation of the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for the hospital and a local Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). A graduate of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and where he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree with a concentration in Public Health Informatics. This advanced program aligns his deep technical expertise with his commitment to improving population health through data-driven solutions.
Dr. Butler remains deeply engaged in fostering collaboration among community healthcare providers. He co-hosts monthly provider meetings with Dr. Joe Roberts, VP/CMO of UNC Health Southeastern, and is looking to expand these collaborative meetings to Scotland County. In addition to being certified on multiple cloud platforms, including AWS and Microsoft Azure, Dr. Butler holds certifications in machine learning and artificial intelligence, leveraging these advanced technologies alongside cutting-edge tools to help network members effectively track and manage the populations they serve. His dedication to integrating technology, informatics, and community-driven solutions continues to make a significant impact on healthcare delivery and population health management.
Dr. Butler is also leading efforts to develop a Community Health Record (CHR) designed specifically for disadvantaged rural communities, ensuring equitable access to healthcare data and resources. This initiative aims to empower rural providers with actionable insights to improve outcomes for underserved populations. Additionally, he is spearheading the creation of public health resource portals tailored to address critical needs in Rural America, including specialized portals for combating substance use disorder and providing targeted resources for the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. These innovative projects highlight Dr. Butler’s commitment to leveraging technology and informatics to bridge healthcare gaps, improve health equity, and address the unique challenges faced by rural and marginalized communities.
