Latest Flu numbers
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a health advisory recommending subtyping all influenza A positive specimens from hospitalized patients, particularly those in an intensive care unit (ICU), as soon as possible after admission and ideally within 24 hours.
The North Carolina Division of Public Health encourages clinicians and laboratories to take actions to increase and accelerate subtyping of influenza A in hospitalized patients. Additional laboratory guidance will be forthcoming. Current guidance on prioritization and collection of specimens for avian influenza testing is available on the NC DPH Avian Influenza Website. For non-urgent questions email [email protected]; for urgent questions contact the state Communicable Disease Branch Epi On Call (919-733-3419; available 24/7).
